Fancy a taste of the Edinburgh Fringe festival in central London? The Other Palace is thrilled to present nine shows previewing their material before heading up to Scotland. With a range of original and existing musicals and comedy, it is sure to be an eclectic and vibrant week in the Studio.

When You Fall Down - The Buster Keaton Story | Wed 18 Jul, 8pm
The triumphs and trials of the silent era’s greatest star, told for the first time as a stage musical. Through slapstick, songs and soft shoe shuffle, When You Fall Down tells Buster’s tale from his first movie-making experience in 1917, to his signing by MGM 11 years later.

Vulvarine - A New Musical | Sat 21 Jul, 9pm & Sun 22 Jul, 4pm
Bryony Buckle is astoundingly average. Her days are filled with mind numbing office work, thinking about lunch and lusting after Orson Bloom from IT. But following a dose of hormone therapy gone wrong and a well-timed bolt of lightning, Bryony gains superhero abilities and a brand-new persona: Vulvarine, saviour of womankind.

Rachel’s life is a Mess, and her best friend Adam always seems to have his life together. Following an unexpected turn of events, she turns up at his flat in the early hours of the morning, but is she really the only one who is struggling? Through a cathartic explosion of original music, dancing, laughter and tears, the show delves into the importance of friendship and opening up in a world where people seem more and more disconnected.

89 Nights: An Original Musical | Wed 25 Jul, 8pm
Alice, our British protagonist, arrives in New York, fresh out of school, full of naïve hope and imagination of what the next 89 nights (the length of her ESTA visa) will be like. She is away from home and family and everything that defined her identity for the first time in her life. This is an emotional commentary about growing up, being the stranger in the room and living each day in the moment. Through humour, song, laughter and wit, the company are looking for the answer to a pessimistic question ‘if you know when it’s going to end then what’s the point in starting?’.

World In Progress | Thu 26 Jul, 8pm
Written by composer-lyricist Colm Molloy and featuring a cast of actor-musicians, it is a piece that explores our relationship with the earth; how we’ve grown from worshipping, to exploiting and destroying it, whilst simultaneously doing the same to humanity. In a time where we are constantly surrounded by sociopolitical and cultural conflicts, it is important to reflect on our relationship with the planet and the fragility of human life.

The Girls From Oz | Fri 27 Jul, 8pm
Pining for the Southern Cross? Spend a five-star night with The Girls From Oz! Full of sass and armed with killer harmonies, these Sheilas can sing, joke and put on one helluva show! With a sophisticated three-part harmony spin on Aussie songs, these glamorous girls ask if there actually is no place like home. Inspired by The Boy From Oz himself, Peter Allen (as well as a ute full of other Aussie greats such as Kylie, AC/DC, John Farnham, Gotye and Sia), all cabaret should be this fun!

Lucky Stiff | Sat 28 Jul, 2pm
Mistaken identities, a corpse in a wheelchair, a short-sighted ex-lover, an avaricious dogs’ home, an English shoe salesman, a French cabaret singer and some nuns. A hilarious romp that starts in East Grinstead and ends in Monte Carlo, with catchy tunes from the team that wrote Seussical and Ragtime.

The Trail To Oregon | Sat 28 Jul, 8pm & Sun 29 Jul, 5pm
This audience participation musical allows the audience to feel connected to the wagon party, naming them at the beginning of each performance and choosing the ending of the show. ‘The Trail to Oregon!’ was previously acclaimed the most historically accurate musical portrayal of the Oregon Trail so expect 12 fun and educational songs and appearances from famous historical figures, such as Henry McDoon, Cletus Jones and Cornwalls as the story unfolds around you.

Zelda: A Post-Modern Musical | Thu 9 - Sat 11 Aug

It’s the debaucherous 1920’s, and infamous flapper and socialite Zelda Fitzgerald and her husband F.Scott Fitzgerald are throwing a party like no other…. And you’re invited. This brand new musical features a Post Modern score of reworked classic and popular songs as you’ve never heard them before. Presented as a work in progress piece.




The Iron Woman | Fri 12 - Sat 13 Oct

The Iron Woman is furious about industrial pollution and has come to teach humankind a lesson. How far must she go to make people listen? An award-winning team adapts poet laureate Ted Hughes’ unforgettable environmental morality tale into a magical musical play told through the eyes of children for children.
