Together – Claire Martin & Ian Shaw

Running time: 1 hour 50 minutes approximately

Two British jazz greats, vocalists Claire Martin and Ian Shaw come “Together” for this unique opportunity for The Other Palace audiences to enjoy as a climax to our 2017 Jazz Divas series with this sparkling, entertaining and memorable show

Claire Martin is an established tour de force on the UK jazz scene winning the British Jazz Awards seven times along the way and receiving an OBE in 2011 for her Services to Jazz.

Claire has released 20 must have CD’s on the prestigious Linn Records label and performed all over the world with her trio and worked extensively with the late Sir Richard Rodney Bennett in an intimate cabaret duo setting in England and USA. Claire is a regular soloist with the Royal Northern Sinfonia, The Halle Orchestra and the BBC Concert orchestra.

No stranger to the venue, Claire opened the 2015 EFG London Jazz Festival in the Studio, sang in the 2016 Jazz Divas series, and sold out the Theatre twice to wide acclaim, with her “Just the Two of Us” concerts with Joe Stilgoe

Ian Shaw inherited a love of jazz from his late father, who was a fan of big band music. But his own route to performing jazz came via the alternative comedy circuit in London, where he met and was inspired by musicians like Carol Grimes and Julie and Keith Tippett.

Regarded by many jazz aficionados as the UK’s leading male jazz singer, and often likened to his hero Mark Murphy, Ian has released a string of well-received albums and twice named Best Vocalist at the BBC Jazz Awards

Ian is respected for his ability to re-interpret not only the usual jazz standards but also rock and pop songs by the likes of Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, David Bowie and Radiohead.

“Claire is our finest jazz singer” Clive Davis, The Times

“Ian Shaw is praised far and wide as the greatest male jazz singer Britain has to offer” Jazz Times (US)
