Edinburgh Previews: When You Fall Down - The Buster Keaton Story

Studio

The triumphs and trials of the silent era’s greatest star, told for the first time as a stage musical.

Through slapstick, songs and soft shoe shuffle, When You Fall Down tells Buster’s tale from his first movie-making experience in 1917, to his signing by MGM 11 years later.

We follow Buster’s personal and professional triumphs and trials as he films his iconic movies. As the world whirls around him, his marriage failing, his career at threat and turning to the bottle, Buster must hit his mark as he films his most dangerous ever stunt. With mime, magic, re-creations of Buster’s tricks and footage from the films, When You Fall Down is a tribute to “The Great Stone Face”; a man who always got back on his feet, no matter how many times he fell down.

When You Fall Down comes to The Other Palace for the first time, following performances at the start of July in Paris, France. In August it will be appearing at The Pleasance, Edinburgh. The show has appeared to sell-out audiences across London, was invited to this year’s Slapstick Festival in Bristol and has been performed in the US, including for Buster’s own family. The International Buster Keaton Society endorses this unprecedented one-man musical, telling Buster’s amazing tale.

A must see for fans of musical theatre, classic movies, remarkable true life stories, or just a good old fashioned pratfall!
