Typecasting and a theatre career drove her to insanity. She exchanged stage wings for padded walls, glamorous costumes for a white nightgown, adoring audiences for a bunch of inmates. Yet, she will sing! A madwoman proudly recounts the roles and songs which made her who she is today, celebrating that fine line between creativity and madness.
Set in an imaginary mental asylum, Mad Women in My Attic! is the cabaret brainchild of Monica Salvi, an Italian actress based in London.
With the aid of her psychiatrist pianist Michael Ferreri, Miss Salvi will lead you through the wonderful melodies of Stephen Sondheim, Kurt Weill, Kander & Ebb, Maury Yeston, Tom Lehrer, Heisler & Goldrich, and otherwise and talented composers who realized that a good madwoman can inspire the greatest songs.
After successful runs at the Brighton Fringe Festival, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where it received the consensus of public and critics alike, and a Broadway debut at the United Solo Theatre Festival in New York, Miss Salvi is madly delighted to bring the show back to London, where it was originally developed.
The show has been directed by Clare McKenna, who's skilfully put some reason into Monica's madness.
'A highly energetic and engaging performance from a truly exceptional singer.' (All Things Cultured)
